Homeschool Memoirs - Let's Play a Game!

Homeschoolers are very resourceful people. They use what they have and use them to their best ability. I know in our home many times people ask us how we use this or that for learning, and we are happy to explain it’s value. I think the main thing that a lot of people miss is that life is learning, and you must use everything in your home for learning otherwise you won’t fully be prepared.

THEME: This week I want to invite you to share what different games you use for learning in your homeschool. Outside games, board games, or card games, and what purpose or subject you use them for.

Some of our favorites:

Chess - The girls play this with Daddy. I am hopeless and hate having to think ahead a few moves.

Flags of the World - Geography. The kids love looking at all of the beautiful different flags - and they learn countries, capitals, and flags as we go! This can be made easy/hard depending on which flags you decide to include in your game. I'm sure that some of them could stump even the most worldy people. :)

Take Off! - Geography. This one is one of our all-time favorites. I used to play this one as a kid, so I definitely wanted to pass on the family tradition :) The object is to be the first to fly all of your 4 airplanes around the world.
Borderline (World Edition) - Geography (yet again). I guess I must really like Geography! :) We just got this one and haven't had a chance to try it out, but it looks like a lot of fun!
I am also currently making our own family game. I am using 3X5 cards and I keep adding questions as we study different things. We will use it as a sort of trivial pursuit game (without the pop culture aspect of course). So far I have questions about the solar system, Mesopotamia, skip counting, poetry memorization, latin vocab, Bible verses, and Ancient Egypt, but I'm adding more every day.

Thank you for the game references! I will purchase Take Off now as a gift. With a pilot husband this game is sure to be popular.

Thank you for sharing!

Oh oh oh! We bought Take Off awhile back and it was missing the directions, the kids have been chomping at the bit to play, but we can't figure out how!

Do you think there's any way you could scan the directions/explain it to me so we could play? It looks like an amazingly fun game!

Your blog really is beautiful, I love the look.

My email is homeschooledyear@gmail.com if you wanna help with the directions :D
