The Simple Woman's Daybook #8

FOR TODAY December 1, 2008...
Outside my window...Darkness. Our days are WAY too short now. This is the time of year that I don't enjoy in Alaska. The sun isn't rising until well after ten and is setting at 3. The days are just too short - it messes with my head!
I am thinking...that I really should start going to bed earlier.
I am thankful for...my wonderful kids and their great attitudes this long weekend.
From the learning rooms...We have finished up our space studies and are moving on to earth science. We are studying Ancient China this week in history.
From the kitchen...I didn't have many leftovers after Thanksgiving since we went pretty light this year, but I am wanting to start using up what is in the freezer and on the shelves instead of shopping. There are things in there that I have forgotten about and they need to be eaten :)
I am wearing... PJs
I am creating...a newsletter for our FRG (ok, so I'm supposed to already have this done, but I am procrastinating - sorry Michelle!)
I am going...crazy! Just kidding :) We are resuming our normal classes this week - dance, gymnastics, Girl Scouts, AWANA etc. I need to make another trip to the post office (which I HATE doing this time of year). I guess I'll have to do a run to the grocery store too - we're out of veggies.
I am reading...books on Ancient China with the kids
I am hoping...that our new schedule works this week. That we can get up early enough to make it work!
I am hearing...the dryer and the buzz of my computer
Around the house...Decking the halls this week. I actually went out and bought a cheezy, fake tree. It's horrid, (I'm a Christmas tree purist) but it will have to do this year. I couldn't get a real tree into the truck with the kids. Plus, it is so dry here that it would be dead before Christmas and I would have to deal with getting rid of it. Next year, when Andy is here, we will go back to the good old-fashioned LIVE tree - the one that smells like Christmas :)

A few plans for the rest of the week: To see the Nutcracker Ballet this weekend!
