Salt Dough Maps: Geographical Terms

We finally finished up our Salt Dough Maps today. Wow, did the dough take a long time to dry! Maybe we just made them too thick? Anyway, the kids were happy to pull the paint out and make a mess. They had made their own lands a few days ago, learning geographical terms along the way. Now their lands are colorful!! Everyone included an erupting volcano - Lexie's about destroyed her whole land. Yes, she went crazy with the lava :)

Here is the super easy recipe to make them:
1. Mix 1 cup of flower and 1/2 cup salt.
2. Add 1/2 c. water, and stir.
3. Add more water or flour as needed to make consistency of play dough.

Some of the geographical terms they learned are: plateau, peninsula, archipelago, bay, island, volcano, peak, delta, and mouth (of river).

The kids really enjoyed this project. I think I might have them try to make a map of Ancient Egypt next...
