The Family Virtues Guide: Obedience

Don't we all wish that our children were a bit more obedient? I can't say that we have any major issues with this, but it was definitely good to talk about it with the kids today.

We went over some family rules, about following those rules when no one is watching, about doing chores without being asked, and about doing things the first time they are asked (as opposed to the second or third time...). Another important thing we discussed was facing the consequences of not being obedient.

The affirmation for this week was:
"I am obedient. I listen respectfully to my elders. I have the courage to face a just consequence and make a new start. I listen to my inner truth and do what is right."

I found this poem on obedience which I read to the kids:

Obedience

If you're told to do a thing,
And mean to do it really,
Never let it be by halves,
But do it fully freely.

Do not make a poor excuse,
Waiting, weak, unsteady;
All obedience worth the name
Must be prompt and ready.
